How To Find Keywords For Your Website Using Quora And Reddit
Publishing new and engaging content on your website on a regular basis is important for SEO and for building brand awareness.
However, sometimes it can be difficult to find new topics to write about.
Many businesses and agencies do keyword research the traditional way. They take a seed keyword and enter it into an SEO tool (such as: Ahrefs, SEMRush, etc.). The tool will then generate a large list of broad and related keywords and questions.
However, there is another great way to find questions and content topics for your website. That is, if you use the Q&A websites Quora and Reddit.
What is Quora?
Quora is an online platform where people can ask questions and provide answers about any topic. People can ask all sorts of questions and other people and experts can answer these questions and provide high quality insights and information.
The website was founded on June 25, 2009 and on June 21, 2010 was made available to the public.
Quora User and Traffic Statistics
It is estimated that Quora receives 122 million monthly visitors from Google’s organic search results (source: Ahrefs March 2023 overview report).
The top five countries where these visitors come from are: USA, India, UK, Philippines and Canada. The US accounts for about 39.3% or 31.4 million monthly visitors.
Quora.com has about 88 million internal pages (in around 36 different languages), and this number keeps growing as more and more people keep adding new questions on the website.
Each new question adds a new URL to Quora.com’s domain.
A large portion of Quora’s Q&A pages appear in Google’s search results.
For example, the term “is apple watch se waterproof” has a monthly search volume of 6,000 in the US and Quora’s URL https://www.quora.com/Is-the-Apple-Watch-SE-waterproof shows as the 4th result in Google’s organic search results.
According to Ahrefs this URL receives an estimate of 2,065 visitors per month, by ranking for the top keyword “is apple watch se waterproof” and 129 other related keywords.
How to find popular questions on Quora?
One way to find popular questions on Quora related to your niche and industry is by using the search bar.
For example, you can enter the term “apple watch” and you’ll see a list of Q&As mentioning these keywords.
You can get an idea which questions are more popular than others, by looking at the number of answers the question has received and how many users follow this question.
Changes are that these popular questions are also searched in Google and are a great topic to write about on your blog or website.
You can then make a list of popular questions on Quora related to your industry, and then look up their search volume in an SEO tool. You should check the search volume, so you can decide if it’s worth incorporating these topics into your content strategy.
Checking the search volume this way can be somewhat time consuming, but thanks to Ahref’s Top Pages report there is an easier and much faster way to do this, as we’ll explain below.
How to incorporate Quora into your Keyword Research strategy?
As we already mentioned above, questions that are popular in Quora are most likely also searched for in Google and will have a decent or high search volume.
There is an easy way to see the traffic potential of Quora questions by using the “Top Pages” report in Ahrefs. This way you can easily identify good topics to write about.
Enter quora.com in Ahrefs site explorer tool, then click on “Top Pages”. This will give you a list of Quora’s internal pages (URLs) with data on how many visitors each page gets per month (Traffic), how many keywords this page ranks for in Google, what is the top keyword that brings the most traffic, the country and its search volume, and lastly it shows what it the position that this page holds for its top keyword.
Next, you’ll want to filter the country (ex: US, Canada, etc.) or leave it as the default “All Countries”.
Then click on “Keyword filters” and enter the keywords that are relevant to your business, and click “Apply”. In this example, we’ll enter “apple watch”.
This will filter out all Quora pages that rank for terms containing “apple watch” as phrase match.
Now you can see how many visitors each page gets per month, how many keywords it ranks for and what is the “Top Keyword” and its search volume.
In just a few steps, you were be able to generate a list of hundreds of content topics you can use.
Look through the list and pick out questions and long-tail keywords that you can include on your blog or website.
